Our area
The area Wipptal is located in the South of the Tyrolean capital Innsbruck and extends to the Italian border. The area is part of the political district Innsbruck-Land. The distance between Innsbruck and the Brenner pass is about 36km. The Wipptal comprises a main valley in direction North-South and seven tributary valleys. Five of them are inhabited: Navistal, Schmirntal and Valsertal in the East of the main valley, Gschnitztal and Obernbergtal in the West.
The Wipptal is geographical and historical one unity. It is an important traffic route from North to South (Munich - Verona) and a part of the European main transport network.
The area Wipptal unites twelve townships: Ellbögen, Gries am Brenner, Gschnitz, Matrei am Brenner, Mühlbachl, Navis, Obernberg am Brenner, Pfons, Schmirn, Steinach am Brenner, Trins and Vals.
